#TB30: 4 Heart-Warming Family Stories to Put You in the Island Mindset
In celebration of our 30th anniversary, we've compiled a collection of personal stories from our community who have been part of our journey, and who have helped define the spirit of Tommy Bahama. From heartfelt memories to simple reminders to live life like it's one long weekend, we hope these people inspire you as they've inspired us.
“To say my Uncle Tom loved Tommy Bahama is an understatement. No matter what was happening on any given day—a wedding, a business meeting with a new client, or a trip to the grocery store—you could count on spotting Uncle Tom wearing one of his tried-and-true Tommy Bahama shirts
As a 6'10" gentle giant, Uncle Tom was consistently asked three questions, without fail: How's the weather up there? Can you reach that for me? And where do you find shirts that cool that fit you? The vibrant, jovial shirts were always the perfect complement to Uncle Tom's personality, and no one wore them quite like he did.
Following his recent passing, we gifted friends and family members his signature shirts as a way to keep his memory alive. We all knew what a privilege it was to have an Uncle Tom Tommy Bahama shirt—even it was way too big.”
KRISTINA T., MA“Growing up, my parents had a matching Tommy Bahama chair and umbrella set for the beach. It accompanied me to the sand every summer when I was in high school—and as a broke college student who couldn't afford my own gear… it went with me then too. It managed to follow me into adulthood, as I stored it in my camper and "borrowed" it for summers at a time.
Last year, my sister and I took a beach trip with our own kids, and we laughed as we realized we each have a matching borrowed set from them. Tommy Bahama for life!”
“For my 21st birthday present, my parents gave me a Tommy Bahama Beach Chair. Ten years later, I can't begin to tell you everything that chair has brought into my life.
I remember opening it when they gave it to me and thinking, 'Okay well, this is cool,' but not giving it much further thought. My dad was so excited to give it to me and, after some time with my newfound adventure companion, it didn't take me long to realize why. Dad knew exactly what I was in store for, even if I didn't quite understand myself yet.
To this day, I have made more memories with that chair than any other item I own, and with it reaching its last days... well, it's safe to say I am in need of a new chair—and another decade full of memories.”
“My seven-year-old daughter and I are a Gold Star Family from my husband's service-connected death, due to his time serving our country in the USAF. Tommy Bahama in Miramar Beach was one of his favorite restaurants along the Gulf Coast. Now, I take our daughter to the Tommy Bahama restaurant whenever we are in the area. We order his favorite dishes (especially the goat cheese with mango salsa!) while I tell her about the cherished memories and many meals shared at that very restaurant.”
