This year marks our big 3-0! We opened our first retail store in 1993, but even then, we were inspired to expand our take on the island lifestyle. In 1996, we launched our first Tommy Bahama Restaurant & Bar on Third Street in Naples, Florida, featuring delicious food, refreshing drinks, and warm hospitality.
Since then, we’ve opened dozens of award-winning restaurants and bars across America, each showcasing the best in local ingredients, signature cocktails, and craft microbrews. To celebrate nearly 30 years of good food, good vibes, good times, and paradise, we rounded up 10 fan-favorite dishes that have been on the menu since the first restaurant opened.
“Tommy Bahama restaurants offer an island-inspired American cuisine that focuses on fresh, quality local ingredients with vibrant colors and texture, all made in a scratch kitchen,” said Don Donley, Director of Culinary at Tommy Bahama. “While we frequently add new dishes to the menu, we’re proud to have some items that have remained on the menu for years. These dishes and cocktails are real fan-favorites at all our locations.”
THE CLASSICS
How could a list of our fan-favorite dishes start with anything other than our World Famous Coconut Shrimp? This dish lives up to its name, with a crisp coconut coating that gives a satisfying crunch. Sitting next to some Island Slaw and papaya-mango chutney, it’s the perfect balance of sweet and savory, and a great starter to any meal.
For lighter fare, we have the Grilled Chicken and Mango Salad, which features baby greens, roasted almonds, macadamia nuts, feta cheese, dried blueberries, crispy pepitas, vine-ripe tomatoes, mango, and chicken—all tossed in a lemon-basil vinaigrette. Our mouths are watering already!
Another 1996 original that you love is our Parmesan-Crusted Sanibel Chicken. This delightful entree is stuffed with herb cheese and sits atop a mild red-pepper sauce, giving it a slight kick. With a side of mashed potatoes and grilled broccolini, you’re sure to walk away satisfied.
Tommy Bahama Restaurants & Bars are well known for seafood, but don’t let the Coconut Shrimp steal all the limelight. Our Blackened Mahi Mahi Tacos have been a staple of our menu for over two decades, because who doesn’t love the best fish tacos around? Grilled and lightly blackened, these tacos are topped with refreshing Island Slaw, tangy lime sour cream, and chipotle aioli for a slight touch of spice.
Next on our list is the Macadamia Crusted Fresh Catch, which varies by location and season. We’re committed to sustainable seafood, and this dish truly showcases locally sourced flavors that you know and love. The sides of almond rice and grilled asparagus don’t hurt, either.
If you’re looking for a reason to celebrate, look no further than our Kona Coffee Crusted Ribeye. Combining one of Hawaii’s iconic flavors with the king of steak cuts, this dish is the ultimate showstopper. It’s the perfect meal to round out a night out with friends and family—but don’t forget to save room for…
THE DIVINE DESSERTS
Two of our iconic, decadent desserts have been fan-favorite Tommy Bahama dishes since 1996, and it’s no surprise. You can’t go home without at least a bite of one of our indulgent, homemade confections.
After all, who could pass up a slice of our light and airy Piña Colada Cake? This four-layer cake is moistened with dark rum and layered with crushed pineapple and a velvety white-chocolate mousse. Atop the frosting sits a layer of finely shredded coconut, giving the whole dessert another dimension of texture that keeps us coming back for more.
For those who prefer things a little more tart, our just-as-popular Key Lime Pie should satisfy all your cravings. With a touch of sour to offset the sweetness, the creamy filling pairs perfectly with the slight crumble of the graham-cracker crust. With dollops of white chocolate mousse and some zest on top, it’s a true love letter to all things key lime.
AND WHO CAN FORGET OUR CRAFT COCKTAILS...
We definitely can’t—and neither do you! Nothing says island living like sipping on a cocktail and letting all your worries wash away. That easygoing feeling is the essence of our legendary Tommy Bahama Mai Tai. Aged premium rum, orgeat, orange curaçao, pineapple juice, a touch of citrus, and a dark-rum float all come together to make this instant tiki classic.
And last, but certainly not least, is our Grapefruit Basil Martini. Everyone loves a good vodka martini, but we step things up by infusing it with some refreshing basil and the slight tartness of hand-squeezed grapefruit juice. Shake it all up in a cocktail shaker and you have a drink worth sipping on while kicking back on our patios.
AN EXPERIENCE UNLIKE ANY OTHER
There’s nothing quite like spending time at a Tommy Bahama Restaurant or Marlin Bar. No matter where you are, you’ll be transported to an island state of mind, where the cocktails flow as freely as the conversations, and every bite tastes as fresh as it is delicious. Whether you’re craving a leisurely, full-service meal or a quick, casual bite, our oases will always leave you coming back for more.
