August 15 marks NATIONAL RELAXATION DAY, and—not to brag—but that’s kind of our thing. We may have made it our mission to embody an island state of mind year around, but National Relaxation Day is still a big deal. To celebrate the holiday, we talked to our Marketing and Creative team about how they like to kick back, relax, and unwind.
1. TAKE A TECH BREAK
“I block out time to be screen free. In this age where a screen seems to be in front of our faces for most of our waking hours, I make a concerted effort to go screen free for a couple of hours and enjoy listening to music or doing something outdoors.”
–Sara K., Marketing Manager
2. BREATHE IN THE MOUNTAIN AIR
“My favorite way to relax is to head to the mountains. I love to hike, sleep among the trees, and wake up to the sounds of nature.”
–Debbie M., Senior Marketing Manager
3. SOAK & SIP
“I’m all about a nice, hot bath with a well-crafted cocktail (courtesy of my husband) and an audio book.”
–Krista Q., Copywriter
4. ESCAPE CITY LIFE
“To me, relaxation is being in nature. I love to lay out in a park, go for a hike, or enjoy a swim in the ocean. There's something about connecting with the outdoors and getting away from the city that makes me feel refreshed and at ease.”
–Nicole J., Managing Editor
5. INDULGE IN THE SIMPLE THINGS
“On a nice day, I love hangin’ out with friends by the lake with something cold to sip on in my hand. I’m all about good weather, good friends, and good food!”
–Connor C., Print Production Designer
6. FINDING PEACE ON THE PORCH
“My go-to is sitting on the porch, hitting pause, and watching the world go by for a bit. Our porch gets afternoon sun, so my wife and I like to sit on the steps, sip a beverage, and take a beat at the end of the day. On occasion, we can even convince our two teenagers to join us. There is something relaxing and laid-back about the porch that it always leads to good conversation and an opportunity to pause for a minute.”
–Tyson F., Vice President of Marketing
7. CONNECT WITH THE WORLD AROUND YOU
“Relaxation for me means taking a walk in nature. On nice days I love just walking barefoot on the lawn or people watching with my dogs.”
–Angelo B., Graphic Designer
8. R&R IN THE GARDEN
“One of my favorite ways to unwind in the summer is to sit in my Tommy Bahama Beach Chair in my garden, recline the seat back a little, sip on a chilled drink, and watch the bees visiting the flowers while listening to the birds and sound of the breeze through the trees.”
–Megan E., Marketing Manager
9. GET YOUR HEAD IN THE GAME
“The best way for me to unwind and recharge is to play a game of tennis, a round of golf, or take a yoga class.”
–Lisa A., Executive Vice President of Digital & Marketing
10. MAKE TIME FOR A WEEKEND GETAWAY
“One of my favorite things is enjoying our beach house. It is a quick trip to the Island Life and everything moves at a much more relaxed pace. The ferry ride there and relaxing on the deck, taking in the view, and pulling out my paints is a great way for me to relax. And if I am lucky, I will see a big, beautiful eagle fly by!”
–Alise T., Senior Production Manager
