Nicole is an Editor for Tommy Bahama and based in Seattle, WA. This is a personal account of her experience at the newly opened Tommy Bahama Miramonte Resort in Indian Wells, CA.
Everyone’s in need of a little escape, and I was no exception. Between the demands and pace of the modern world, and the return of the infamous rainy season in the Pacific Northwest, I knew my trip to the desert would be a welcome one. What I didn’t expect was how one weekend could leave me feeling completely rejuvenated—offering up a fresh perspective, igniting a new passion, and instilling a deep gratitude that stayed with me beyond the resort’s walls.
Surrounded by majestic mountains, picturesque palm trees, sprawling golf courses, and bright blue skies, the Tommy Bahama Miramonte Resort exists as an oasis in the desert, promising rest and play in a luxurious fashion. As I wheeled my luggage into the inviting lobby, adorned with rich, tropical murals, lush greenery, and calming earth tones, I let out an audible exhale. The unmistaken vacation feeling was palpable—and reflected in lively conversations at the nearby bar, a gentleman returning from a day of golf at the course across the way, and carefree couples sipping on cocktails al fresco. Contentment was in the air, and it washed over instantly.
Once I retrieved my room key, I headed out of the lobby, onto the expansive grounds of the property. With stone paths and tiled spiral staircases spanning in each direction, the landscape likened itself to a choose your own adventure scene. Unlike other resorts that I’ve stayed at, there wasn’t a traditional “hallway” in sight. Instead, outdoor pathways lined with olive groves and citrus trees led me to my room.
TB Tip: Guests can pick fresh citrus on the property, so pack a small bag and help yourself to an assortment of lemons, grapefruit, and limes.
Every getaway is only as good as the bed you sleep in… Set against textured, verdant foliage and rich, tropical bloom wallpaper, the newly renovated rooms blend the natural beauty of the desert with warm tropical vibes. Each room and suite are thoughtfully designed with woven textures, organic tones, and Tommy Bahama's signature prints—a calming sanctuary that inspires relaxation and serves as the perfect start and end to each day.
TB Tip: The beds and pillows are dangerously comfy, make sure to set an alarm or you might snooze through that early tee time!
As I made my way to the main resort pool, upbeat music and jovial chatter reverberated through the outdoor corridors. The pool was buzzing with energy and the iced drinks from poolside bar, Chiki Palm, were flowing as easily as the conversations. A resident DJ is posted caddy corner to the bar, and guests bask in the sunshine alongside pink-and-white-striped umbrellas and towering palm trees. I ordered a drink and the Ahi Poke Bowl and made my way to a private cabana. Poolside cabanas can be reserved for up to six days, are fully shaded, and come with complimentary margaritas and a sun care kit from the spa.
TB Tip: Looking for a low-key pool day? The Hideaway Pool & hot tub is just down the way and offers a more relaxed, quieter experience.
The resort takes on a new life entirely, softly lit with twinkling lights, hanging lanterns, and scattered fire pits. Guests wander the grounds under indigo skies in linen button downs and flowing dresses, sipping colorful cocktails and excitedly discussing their evening plans. I make my way to Grapefruit Basil, the restaurant exclusively created for the resort. As I’m escorted to my table, I admire the striking aesthetic and thoughtful details—a grand yet intimate room with olive green, velvety half-moon booths reminiscent of the art deco era, moody, atmospheric lighting illuminating glasses of bubbling champagne, a musician strumming an acoustic guitar in the far corner. Transparent floor-to-ceiling doors slide open, revealing an indoor/outdoor concept that allows guests to indulge in dinner and drinks by moonlight.
The menu is simple in options, but complex in flavors. Inspired by coastal California cuisine and heavily featuring seafood and locally sourced ingredients indigenous to the area, it offers something for everyone in a sustainable, elevated way. After ordering the signature Grapefruit Basil cocktail, I tried the Dungeness Crab Cakes appetizer, served with green papaya slaw and a red curry aioli. They’re perfectly crispy, melt-in-your-mouth delicious with a surprising kick that complements the savory-ness of the crab. For my main course, I went with the ribeye and truffle mashed potatoes. The ribeye was tender and flavorful and the mashed potatoes (my personal favorite), parmesan crusted and buttery smooth. And last, but certainly not least, I enjoyed the mango sorbet—light, refreshing, and subtly sweet.
The only thing more impressive than the food and ambiance was the service. The staff was warm, knowledgeable, and attentive. They love what they do, and it shows, making this one of the best dining experiences I’ve had the pleasure of indulging in.
TB Tip: Start your perfect evening under the stars with live music in the Olive Grove from 6-9p.
New day, new… cocktail? After a post-dinner dip in the pool and a night of sound sleep, I woke up ready to start the day! Back to Grapefruit Basil I went, this time trading savory dinner fare for Blueberry Ricotta Pancakes, fresh Lox, and the Ruby Red Grapefruit Brulee. None of it disappointed and the service was exceptional once again. Grapefruit Basil looks different in the daytime—light, airy, and serenaded by birds chirping in the nearby olive groves. A beaming bride-to-be goes over ceremony plans with the event coordinator at the table next to mine. Sunshine filters into the room, and all feels right.
TB Tip: Try a fresh take on the classic Huevos Rancheros! Apparently, it’s a brunch crowd pleaser amongst staff and guests alike.
After brunch, I go to Spa Rosa, the renowned spa at the resort that offers a wide range of award-winning treatments from personalized facials and massages to sound baths and aerial yoga. Complete with a private pool, stone maze hot tub, steam room, and lounge areas, spending an entire day here is easy to do. I meet with Rachel, my masseuse, and she hands me a stone of intention. “Turn over your stone and read the word engraved on the back. This is what you’re meant to meditate on today.” I do so, and it reveals grace.
For my treatment, I chose the Relaxation Massage with Island Rain Drop Therapy. After that, I did the Vitamin Sea Power Uplifting Facial with the added Coconut Scalp Treatment, which left my skin and hair feeling so soft and revitalized. All massages and facials are tailored to the guest’s needs and preferences and can be paired with an assortment of add-on treatments such as hot stones, CBD tincture, and hydrating face masks.
And while basking in post-spa bliss… I knew it was time to get out of my comfort zone and try something I never had before. I’m introduced to Cristy, my Aerial Yoga instructor for the day. As she hooks up the silk hammock to the carabiners above us, my heart starts to pound. Heights have never been my jam, so the idea of hanging upside down from a piece of fabric made me uneasy.
Cristy was patient and encouraging. “We are in control of our human experience.” She goes onto say, “You’re letting go of the control of the fear and you’re taking control of the breath, of your movements, and of your perspective.” And with that, I tilted forward out of the hammock, legs in the air and palms on the ground. It was liberating, and I left that session feeling strong, accomplished, and little did I know at the time… with a new hobby in tow.
TB Tip: If you really want to treat yourself, the Himalayan Superfruit Body treatment is pure decadence, tending to you from head to toe.
I experienced so much in my short time at Tommy Bahama Miramonte. And while I cherished every experience, every meal, every view, and every restful night’s sleep—what stays with me the most is the hospitality and warmth that fellow guests and I received every day. To be welcomed with open arms by a team so passionate about what they do was deeply appreciated, and ultimately served as a friendly reminder: There’s no hospitality quite like island hospitality....
